6 1/2 weeks left!!!

I cannot believe I have been here in Spain for 2 months! Boy, time flies by! When I first got here, I thought that I was going to miserable, but now I feel like I can do anything, because I have lived so far away from home. I have learned so much about myself and what I want in life just from being here. I hope I am making my family proud too, especially my mother. She loves to brag about me! That's what I love about my Mommy, she is always proud of me. I cannot wait to eat my favorite foods again and I will appreciate everything in the US when I come home! I am also going to Munich, Germany and Oslo, Norway in the next few weeks. I am a bit nervous, because it is very cold in Norway and Munich compared to Murcia. I wish I could see the whole world, but I am learning more just by visiting two countries while studying here in Spain! Well anywho, I should probably go to sleep! Buenas Noches!

Change of Plans this weekend!

This past week has been a great week! The main reason things were so good was because we received our stipend money! Thank goodness for that money, because I was starting to run a little low. As a part of our celebration of receiving our money, we decided to take a last minute trip to Morocco. I have always wanted to go to Africa, and me and the girls planned a trip with the guys to Morocco. We were supposed to take a bus to Almeria, Spain, then take a ferry to Melilla, Morocco, then we had no idea what to do. We caught the bus to Almeria, but we missed our ferry by five minutes. That was a big bummer, but I did not let it phase me, because Almeria is on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Nothing wrong with a change of plans! I also truly believe that we were not meant to go to Morocco this weekend, because I thought about things later and it would have sucked to be on a ferry boat for 8 hours there and 8 hours back. That is literally 24 hours of traveling, including the bus rides! We spent the night in Almeria in this nice hostel on the strip of the beach. 5 of us decided to stay in Spain for the weekend and the others decided to take another ferry ride to Morocco the next morning. We spent all afternoon on the beach, being lazy and simply relaxing. Almeria was a life saver, but it also was an ugly city. The city was so dead and I was sick of seeing old women with no bathing suit top! We checked the bus schedule and saw that there was a bus at 6:30 pm to this beautiful city named Mojacar. We knew about Mojacar, because we passed through it on the way to Almeria and it was beautiful. It had the beach and beautiful architecture as well, which is always a plus! I cannot believe I did this, but we arrived in a small village on a mountain and had no idea where we were staying. We knew the beach was at the bottom of the hill, so we headed down with our dorky bookbags and "beach" towels. We finally saw the beach and continued walking for awhile in the dark. The first hotel we saw, we stopped. Unfortunately the hotel had no vacancies, but the receptionist was so nice and allowed us to use the wireless internet so that we could find someplace to live for the next few days. We were a bit tired and discouraged, but we kept on walking until we saw this man that noticed we were confused. He walked us to find a hostel and we ended up finding the best place we could have possibly gone to. We found the Flamenco Hostel! They were so nice to us and gave us a great room for only 12 Euro per person each day. We only payed 24 Euro each for two nights, how awesome! That night we also met some friends, one who is the son of the hostel owners and one who is one of the waiters in this hostel restaurant. They took us out later that night to a bar and drove us in shifts since there were 5 of us. They even bought us drinks at the bar! We stayed out until about 3 am and after that good time, I realized we came to the right city for the weekend.

....to be continued!

Spain so far!

Okay, so I've been horrible with blogging so far since I've been in Spain, but I will try my best to do better. It will benefit me more than anyone else to write down all that happens so that I will always be able to remember the good and bad times I have had so far. I have officially come to the conclusion that Spanish girls do not like us and never will. We have tried to make nice with Spanish girls, but it doesn't work and I am very content with my new friends from all over Europe. I have made friends from England, Germany, Poland, Italy, Latvia, and some other places I can't think of at the moment. I absolutely love the beautiful city of Murcia! Everytime I visit another city in Spain, it makes me appreciate the city that is my temporary home. I am also surprised with how easy this transition has been with my hair. At times I get frustrated and want to chop off all of my hair, but I am trying to master patience. I love having a new look in Spain and I cannot wait to get home and get some real hair products. I am so sick of using sunflower oil and mousse in my hair. I have also been eating a lot healthier here and realize that natural foods taste even better to me. I love the fruit here, especially the bananas! I think that the bananas must be sweeter here than in the States! I also love the all natural fruit juices, because they aren't so fattening. I also have fallen in love with almonds! I had no idea the health benefits of them until I started to eat them and I looked up health facts on them. They are tasty and very good for hair and skin. I have two more months of adapting to a new culture, hopefully these next few weeks will go by fast, because I am ready to go home and see my family. Anywho, I will describe my weekend vacation or holiday in the next post.

Natural Hair!

Hmm so I have decided to take the journey to natural hair. I've been thinking about this process for a few years now, but I thought this was the perfect time to try something new since I am going to Spain for a few months. I'm really excited about this journey and in fact, I wish I could cut all of this relaxer out of my head now, but i would only have half an inch of hair. I'm not that confident to do something as drastic lol. I just got a hair cut though soo I can go through this process. I am also twisting my hair once a week while it's wet. I'm going to make this post brief and say that I feel liberated not combing, flat ironing or brushing my hair! I hope more black women decide to go through this process too!

Ehhh...nothing else I can say (from Lady Gaga)

Okay, so officially I have two months left until I leave to study abroad in Murcia City, Spain. Holy crap! It's coming so soon! I'm really excited though!

Things have been crazy lately. Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, and Billy Mays have died within days of each other. Of course, MJ's death is the death that is the most shocking and news of his death shut down Google and other internet search engines. Bing became the thing to use that day. 9/11 did not even do this, neither did the election of Barack Obama. I did not realize how internationally popular he was. MJ's fans are also starting to commit suicide. I know Michael wouldn't have wanted this Anywho, RIP all of these people mentioned.

I also saw a good horror movie this week with Ravelle. We're both horror movie junkies! We saw this movie called Otis. This movie is a bit off, if you know what I mean. It's not really a horror movie, but it's pretty f*cked up. The title character Otis is somewhat of a loser; he works as a pizza delivery guy and obsesses over young and pretty teenage girls. He kidnaps one of his customer's daughters and makes her role play with him. Nothing is sexual, but he still has this girl leg chained. The girl escapes and she tells her parents where she was held captive, but her parents don't go to the police. They instead go to the kidnappers house with their teenage son with intentions of killing the creep in a torturous manner. Too bad they kill the wrong man. They end up killing his brother. This movie was funny too! It's a good one! Go see it!

UPDATE!!!! 7/2/09--Club 935 and other guilty parties!

Everyone wonders why I don't go to black clubs. Hmm...I can give you a million reasons, but I will only discuss a few. My boyfriend tried to get into Club 935 tonight, but was denied entry because of his shoes. What kind of shoes were he wearing?--> Sperry's!!! That's absolutely stupid. The bouncers of the club were allowing dudes entry into the club with Timbs (Timberland boots) on. The manager of Club 935 tried to reason with my boyfriend and ask him to pay a $300 fee to enter the club. He then tried lower the price to $100. The original price of admission is $20, yet the fee was hiked up to $300 because of some shoes? It seems like they have some problems with management. I believe this is wrong and shouldn't be allowed. This cannot be legal either. The club is in the hood too. Why are people so into this place? If I go out, I want to go to some place nice and in a nice area. I will continue to boycott this club! :)

I also don't like these parties at Club Ice or Buckwild, etc., because the promoters like to hold the lines so that it looks like the club is packed, when only 20 people are inside dancing. That's a stupid business move. They also like to take pictures of the line outside. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to take pictures inside with the club packed? Hmmm. Is partying that serious that you have to wait in a packed line and pay ridiculous cover fees? If so, then maybe you need to re-evaluate your life!

***Correction...my boyfriend was wearing shoes that were sneakers.

Random Topics!

Okay, so I lied about not seeing Drag Me To Hell again. lol. I saw it yesterday again and I wasn't as scared as I was before. I still don't like demons, but I was able to sit through the movie. Well actually I still had to cover my eyes for certain scenes.

Moving on.....

One of my sorority sisters had been telling me about this book called Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities by Alexandra Robbins. I became interested in this book, because I love hearing about other sororities and fraternities. I always want to know what happens at other schools and how different some chapters are. This author is very brave for writing a book like this, because so many Greeks are not excited about this book. I don't quite know how I feel now about a GDI (non Greek) writing a book about something that they have never experienced before. A lot of people don't want to read this book, because of her inexperience with this college aspect. I don't want to automatically judge her. I just want to read what she has to say. So far I'm on page 80. Already, she's covered a lot of the stereotypes in a sorority like all of the girls are rich and anorexic. She has even talked about the serious talk of rape within the Greek community. As a member of a sorority, I personally have never experienced what Robbins is describing, but I look forward to learning more about other chapters and sororities.

Drag Me To Hell Movie Review

Everyone that knows me, knows that I am a horror movie junkie. I especially love the older movies that have more suspense and less gore. Gory stuff just freaks me out...a lot! I first saw the trailor for Drag Me To Hell when I went to see Haunting In Connecticut. The trailor seemed crazy, but I didn't think that this movie would be all that great. Boy, was I wrong. The moment the title popped up on the screen and the music started, I knew this movie was going to be pretty scary. After seeing it today, I truly believe that this is the scariest movie that I have ever seen in my life!!! The movie freaked me out because it deals with spirts, demons, and curses. I don't like the thought of something simple like an Ouija board, so this movie definitely made me cringe. There were points in the movie where I thought the movie would end, but another crazy event would occur. There are a ton of twists and turns in the plot that will make the viewer freak out. I would recommend anyone who is a scary movie fanatic to see this movie, but I can tell you that I will never see this movie ever again. It freaked me out that much. One time is good for me. Here's a summary of the plot.

Summary:

Chris (a woman) is up for a promotion at work in a bank, but she has some competition with a fellow employee for the position. She feels like the other competitor is winning the position, so she is trying to do make perfect decisions at work. An old woman named Mrs. Ganush comes into the office to ask for a loan extention, because she is about to lose her home. Chris talks to her boss about the situation and chooses to not give another extention. The woman begins to beg her for the loan, but Chris does not budge. In fact, Chris calls security to take her out of the bank. After this incident, the main character goes to her car after work to find the old woman in her car. Mrs. Ganush curses Chris with this powerful spell. After the encounter with the old woman, Chris starts seeing things and hearing things that no one else can see or hear. The curse is supposed to last for 3 days, and on the third day, the demons will come drag her to hell.

Good Music May 30th!!!

Okay, so I have been l have been listening to a ton of different songs lately. I am just getting out of my Drake phase. I still love him, but for two weeks, I have only listened to Drake or Lil Wayne. I think I might have gotten on the obsessed side too, but I'm not crazy person lol. He is pretty sexy though..ahh! :)

---Chrisette Michele: Epiphany.
It took a good few weeks for this song to rub off on me, but now, it is one of my current favorite songs. It also doesn't hurt that Drake is in her music video too. Mmmhmm.

---Ciara: Work
This song is amazing! I don't quite like all the words, but it makes me want to dance. This is probably the best song on her new cd Fantasy Ride. I said on my last post that Love, Sex, and Magic was pretty cool, but now I have changed my mind lol. I remember listening to Work during Infinity Modeling Troupe (UNCC) practice, because we used it in one of our shows. I always thought this song was banging. The only thing that bugs me, is that Cici is starting to be extra provocative. Is this necessary to sale records nowadays? She used to be more clean cut and a role model for younger girls, but now, I have no idea what is going on with her.

Okay, today I feel like talking about some throwback songs that are my favorites right now. If you haven't heard of these songs, then you should check them out, because I only like good music.

---Amel Larriuex: Weather
This song is so calming to me. I just like to kick back and listen to this song. It's off of her first cd called Infinite Possibilities. This woman has the most amazing voice ever! She beats the pants off of Mariah Carey, seriously. You might also know this woman from the group Groove Theory, you know, the group that sang Tell Me. :)

---SWV: You're the One
SWV was one of the best girl groups ever! This song came out in 1996 and is still fun to listen to now.

---Amy Winehouse: In My Bed
This song comes off of Amy's first cd titled Frank. I love this cd, period, but this song stands out to me. I love it because it has the same beat as one of rapper Nas's songs.

Randoms Tirades of The Week!!!

Okay, so I have been slacking on this whole blog thing, but I will try to update as much as possible. I need to get my thoughts out....IMMEDIATELY!!

1. What is it about the summer that makes guys become so bold? I just don't get it. It seems like guys get the courage to talk to a female once the temperature starts to rise or something like that. In my experience, I have had the most guys try to talk to me in the summer time. This summer has just begun, and already drama has followed me. Everyone says you should NEVER bring your girlfriend/boyfriend to the club with you, but my boyfriend and I have a great and trusting relationship. We have no insecurities within our relationship. We go to the club together all the time, and in fact split up while we're there. I don't want to just dance with my boyfriend all night, yet I will not take a number from any guy and hopefully he does the same as I do. Well this past week, we went to the club, and one guy knew that my boyfriend and I were together, but he continued to try to talk to me while my boyfriend was right around the corner. WTF?! This guy then tried to fondle me and ask me inappropriate questions. Maybe it's just young guys. I have no clue.

2. Okay, so everyone knows I am going to study abroad in Murcia, Spain this fall. Everything is official, but I am having the hardest time with this process. If a student plans to study in Spain for 90 days or longer, then they must obtain a visa. This process sounds pretty easy, but guess what??? It's the hardest thing I've had to deal with so far. In order for me to get my visa, I must take a trip to Washington, DC to wait in a line at the embassy that is only open from 9am-1pm Monday through Friday. You have to have specific documents to verify that you are going to study abroad. I have everything, except for one thing. I am waiting for my acceptance letter from La Universidad de Murcia. I have a flight arranged to go to DC on Wed. June, 3rd. The flight is non refundable, and I may not have this letter on time. I'm really freaking out! FML!

3. I'm living at home right now. I haven't lived at home in two whole years. This problem seems minor to most, but to ME, it's a big deal. Why?? Well, I live with my mother, who is very old school and likes to keep me trapped in this house all summer. She wants to know where I am all the time and who I am with. It drives me nuts, but I know she does this because she loves me a lot. So far, the summer is starting out okay at home. I went out to the club Thursday night and got home around 3AM. I thought everything was cool, but later I was questioned by my mother. Geesh. I turn 21 in July, I thought I was grown.

My Favorite Songs 4/15/09

Omg! I am absolutely in love with almost all of Keri Hilson's cd (In a Perfect World...). No one buys cds nowadays, but I actually bought the cd from Itunes. If you don't have this cd, then you need to buy it. There is one song that sticks out as the best, which is "Intuition." It's about a girl who has that feeling that her boyfriend is about to cheat. A lot of us women go through this feeling so we can all relate. It also has a crazy Timbaland beat. I tell you anything that man touches is the shit! Other notable favorites are Slow Dance, Make Love, and of course Turnin' Me On (Feat. Lil Wayne). I'm sick of these other females putting out garbage like Beyonce.

I know I am a little late, but I am starting to really like Drake. Drake, also known as Aubrey Graham on Degrassi: The Next Generation, can actually flow. I'm pretty surprised. I thought he was so fine on Degrassi as Jimmy Brooks, but who new that little Jimmy Brooks could rap? I love his song with Trey Songz called Replacement Girl. I look forward to his cd.

I love Rick Ross! I am so excited about his song with John Legend, because it is so fresh and perfect for the Spring and Summer. When I listen to Magnificent, I imagine myself on an expensive yacht with some nice champagne or wine. After Trilla, I became a big fan.

Now for the last song! ---->>> Love, Sex, and Magic. Now that's quite a title. I already love Ciara, and I am so happy she finally brought back another song that I like. The last 2 songs she has put out have been horrible. OMG! I still think it's crazy that her label made her go back into the studio after she finished her cd Fantasy Ride. It must have been gahh awful, thank goodness she went back to the studio! This music video with Justin Timberlake is pretty steamy. Why do women in the business have to shake and romp or do whatever in music videos? How far is too far?? Seriously! I felt dirty for watching her video lol.

Well anyways, that's it for this week! :)
