Change of Plans this weekend!

This past week has been a great week! The main reason things were so good was because we received our stipend money! Thank goodness for that money, because I was starting to run a little low. As a part of our celebration of receiving our money, we decided to take a last minute trip to Morocco. I have always wanted to go to Africa, and me and the girls planned a trip with the guys to Morocco. We were supposed to take a bus to Almeria, Spain, then take a ferry to Melilla, Morocco, then we had no idea what to do. We caught the bus to Almeria, but we missed our ferry by five minutes. That was a big bummer, but I did not let it phase me, because Almeria is on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Nothing wrong with a change of plans! I also truly believe that we were not meant to go to Morocco this weekend, because I thought about things later and it would have sucked to be on a ferry boat for 8 hours there and 8 hours back. That is literally 24 hours of traveling, including the bus rides! We spent the night in Almeria in this nice hostel on the strip of the beach. 5 of us decided to stay in Spain for the weekend and the others decided to take another ferry ride to Morocco the next morning. We spent all afternoon on the beach, being lazy and simply relaxing. Almeria was a life saver, but it also was an ugly city. The city was so dead and I was sick of seeing old women with no bathing suit top! We checked the bus schedule and saw that there was a bus at 6:30 pm to this beautiful city named Mojacar. We knew about Mojacar, because we passed through it on the way to Almeria and it was beautiful. It had the beach and beautiful architecture as well, which is always a plus! I cannot believe I did this, but we arrived in a small village on a mountain and had no idea where we were staying. We knew the beach was at the bottom of the hill, so we headed down with our dorky bookbags and "beach" towels. We finally saw the beach and continued walking for awhile in the dark. The first hotel we saw, we stopped. Unfortunately the hotel had no vacancies, but the receptionist was so nice and allowed us to use the wireless internet so that we could find someplace to live for the next few days. We were a bit tired and discouraged, but we kept on walking until we saw this man that noticed we were confused. He walked us to find a hostel and we ended up finding the best place we could have possibly gone to. We found the Flamenco Hostel! They were so nice to us and gave us a great room for only 12 Euro per person each day. We only payed 24 Euro each for two nights, how awesome! That night we also met some friends, one who is the son of the hostel owners and one who is one of the waiters in this hostel restaurant. They took us out later that night to a bar and drove us in shifts since there were 5 of us. They even bought us drinks at the bar! We stayed out until about 3 am and after that good time, I realized we came to the right city for the weekend.

....to be continued!

Spain so far!

Okay, so I've been horrible with blogging so far since I've been in Spain, but I will try my best to do better. It will benefit me more than anyone else to write down all that happens so that I will always be able to remember the good and bad times I have had so far. I have officially come to the conclusion that Spanish girls do not like us and never will. We have tried to make nice with Spanish girls, but it doesn't work and I am very content with my new friends from all over Europe. I have made friends from England, Germany, Poland, Italy, Latvia, and some other places I can't think of at the moment. I absolutely love the beautiful city of Murcia! Everytime I visit another city in Spain, it makes me appreciate the city that is my temporary home. I am also surprised with how easy this transition has been with my hair. At times I get frustrated and want to chop off all of my hair, but I am trying to master patience. I love having a new look in Spain and I cannot wait to get home and get some real hair products. I am so sick of using sunflower oil and mousse in my hair. I have also been eating a lot healthier here and realize that natural foods taste even better to me. I love the fruit here, especially the bananas! I think that the bananas must be sweeter here than in the States! I also love the all natural fruit juices, because they aren't so fattening. I also have fallen in love with almonds! I had no idea the health benefits of them until I started to eat them and I looked up health facts on them. They are tasty and very good for hair and skin. I have two more months of adapting to a new culture, hopefully these next few weeks will go by fast, because I am ready to go home and see my family. Anywho, I will describe my weekend vacation or holiday in the next post.
